Space Cadet is a poignant, music-filled tale about memories and the
bonds that connect us. Based on Kid Koala’s award-winning graphic
novel, Space Cadet is a tomorrow-days lullaby about finding your place in the universe.
The dialogue-free animated film is complete with an original score by
Kid Koala, original songs by Mariana “Ladybug” Vieira, and songs featuring vocalists Emilíana Torrini, Martha Wainwright, Meaghan Smith and Trixie Whitley.
This is a sampler of the full soundtrack taken from the original animated feature film Space Cadet.
Recorded in 2018, the friends improvised and let their creativity go wild. The album is the first in a collaboration series Colin Stetson has been working on between soundtrack and solo projects over the past few years. Envision Records (North America) along with their label partner Invada (ROW) will be releasing Colin Stetson’s series of minimal free jazz and improvised collaborations - essentially, snapshots of sonic and visual moments in time.

This is a rework of Rosa Canina by Mary Lattimore.
Originally composed by Neufeld, Parry, and Foon, ‘Rosa Canina’ was inspired by dreams, a space where time and memory fold together. As Rebecca Foon explains, “Here, we move beyond physical, intellectual understanding. The main melody of the piece follows a winding line, oscillating around the dominant drone. ‘Rose Canina’ calls us into a dream world where time and space are fluid, where perhaps for this moment humanity is united in a transcendent experience, like watching the unveiling of a rose in all its beauty.”
Two mischievous characters were found in the depths of an old music and curiosities shop somewhere on the West Coast of the continent. Emerging from the shadows and dusty cut-out bins appeared what we are now calling “distorter”, the real life project of characters Lealani and Kid Koala.

Littoral States is a shifting, reciprocal project that explores affinities beyond time, place, tradition and medium. Working in collaboration between Montréal, Morin-Heights and Brussels, musicians Sarah Pagé and Patrick Graham, along with visual artist Tamar Kasparian, chart pathways at once elusive and overlapping. Referencing a variety of natural elements and artistic traditions, Littoral States endeavors to dissolve boundaries and foreground the incorporeal. Intimacy is defined not by presence/absence, but in knowing and unknowing: as matter etched in air.
